Maths Answers

Having recently retired after 37 years of teaching maths, I had to consider what to do with all the material I had accumulated over the years. It seemed a bit of a waste to just leave it mouldering on my hard drive, eventually to be deleted. So I have made it available here, in the hope that it might be of use to someone (teacher or student). I have organised the material by level and by topic.

For the past ten years, I have used a tablet PC instead of a whiteboard, so the material written on the "board" has been saved. At the time I had no thought of keeping these notes so they are rather messy in places. They were aimed at particular groups, so in some cases there is more than one version.

The worksheets were written to supplement questions from the textbooks, and so they don't aim to cover systematically all topics. But they may be of use as a quick source of questions on a topic. If you want to edit them, they are OpenDocument format, so are best opened with LibreOffice or Apache OpenOffice (both of which are free), though recent versions of Microsoft Office can also handle them.

The "Maths Olympics" part of the site was something I developed to provide a different way of practising basic skills, mainly for 11-14 year olds. Most students seemed to like using it as a break from other ways of learning.

Because I have taught in a selective school for much of the time, most of the Y7-11 material will be more suitable for the upper half of the ability range.

I will be adding further material as and when I get round to it. If you have any comments or queries, you can contact me at a.lewis@mathsanswers.org.uk though I don't guarantee to reply promptly!
